WHY GOLD FILLED
Gold-filled jewelry has 100x more gold alloy than gold plated and because that layer is so much thicker, it means gold-filled jewelry lasts longer and stands up to wear and tear better than gold plated.
CARE TIPS
Note that in general, jewellery wears different for every individual, there are many factors based on your pH levels, sweat acidity, oiliness and humidity that affects jewelry. When wearing your Petite Gold jewels every day, the jewelry comes in contact with the top layer of your skin, which often has a lot of dirt, grit, sweat, oil, and other chemicals. Thus, over time, your jewellery may look darker, or duller, and that is due to the many layers of dirt, chemicals, etc. that are transferred from the skin to your pieces.
To care for your jewellery, take care when in the below situations as they aggravate the tarnishing rate of any jewellery.
SPECIAL CARE INSTRUCTIONS FOR PEARLS
Note that if your jewellery piece contains any organic gemstones, such as pearls, we recommend to keep them away from water as much as possible, and avoid non-water substances such as soaps, detergent and perfumes; as over time this can dull your pearls.
SHOWER
Wearing your Petite Gold pieces in the shower is perfectly fine. We recommend to use gentle soap when wearing your jewellery in the shower, as harsh ingredients and highly fragrant/toxic bath products can affect the wear of your piece.
SLEEP
You can wear your Petite Gold pieces to sleep. Do take care of longer necklaces as you may snag or potentially even break them if you are a non-restful sleeper.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
Sweat is very acidic and can harm your jewellery. To make them last longer, always take off jewellery when doing any form of physical exercise.
BEACH
Salt can affect the wear of your jewellery, so be sure to give them a good rinse with normal water after having a dip in the ocean.
POOL
Chlorine can greatly affect the wear time of your jewellery; we recommend taking your jewellery off when entering a chlorine pool.
DAILY USE
Always put on jewellery last after perfumes, lotion etc have sunk onto the skin. When putting on lotion, remove all your rings and jewellery on body. Contact with chemicals in lotion will almost always aggravate the wear of your piece. Take your jewellery off once a month and clean them under warm water; once they are dry, a good polish with a non-abrasive tarnishing cloth will restore the shine back to most sterling silver and gold fill pieces.
STORING YOUR JEWELLERY
If you are not wearing your jewellery, store them in the provided Petite Gold pouch, and out of the sun, and away from any dirty or moist environments. Alternatively if you hang your pieces up or have your own organization system, that is ok too, however do note that exposure to moisture and dirt in the air, and the sun can make them go dull over time, but a good polish will restore their shine.
I hope this was helpful for you and answers some of your questions on how to take care of your Petite Gold jewels!
